What a day it's been! Parent teacher conferences wedged in between election protection logistics, and a serving of pastoral calls woven among it all. It's not easy to leave town to protect the vote, and depending on how old your kids are, it's not too popular, either. When I went in to my sons' room to talk about my trip, Daniel said he didn't care why I was going; he wanted me to stay home.

Today was the deadline for absentee ballot applications to be received in New York City. Of course, I kept meaning to mail mine, and never did. So I went down to 200 Varick St. in Manhattan, home of the NYC Board of Elections, to make sure my vote would be counted before I left town to work in Philadelphia.

It's a week before Election Day, and my clergy colleagues and I are getting psyched! Nearly everyone I know has been worried about the potential for voter fraud, obstruction and general shenanigans. But a lot of Unitarian Universalists--lay and ordained--wanted to do more than worry. So I decided a few months back to join up with one of the many non-partisan groups organizing to ensure a fair election this November.
